Welcome to Pretentious Town

It’s Tuesday afternoon and Brick Lane is not as bustling and busy as one may imagine. The people that do emerge are clad in their quirky, so called ‘fashionable’ gear with bags from vintage shops and record stores. It’s hard to determine what these individuals are swarming to as the only real sights that pop up are old, seedy looking buildings and side streets that smell of urine, which are the perfect setting for a Jason Stratham gangster film.

East London never used to be a cool and hip area so what makes it so trendy now? Perhaps the expensive bars and restaurants or the ‘Z’ list celebrities that think they’ll be considered alternative and indie if they’re papped in the ‘oh so chic’ Brick Lane.

The irony is that the crowd try desperately to avoid conformism and yet they fail at being original as everyone on this graffiti sprayed lane all look the same.
