POPE Benedict XVI will join the likes of Lady Gaga and Britney Spears by releasing an album on which he can be heard singing and speaking. It comes out on November 30 on the renowned record label Geffen; who have also handled the work of Guns N’ Roses and The Cure.
The eight track album entitled Music from the Vatican Alma Mater features a mixture of songs and chants and the voice of Benedict XVI for the first time on CD. He speaks in five different languages and is accompanied by an orchestra which recorded in Abbey Road studios, made famous by the great British band The Beatles.
Colin Barlow, president of Geffen UK, has commented that the Pope’s voice is ‘soothing but commanding’ and he has a ‘fantastic tone’. The proceeds made from the album will be used to provide music education to underprivileged children around the world.
Perhaps this could be an unlikely contestant for Christmas number one.
